Around 2:00 P.M. today, the Waterboro branch of the Gorham Savings Bank has been robbed. At least one suspect is on the run in a tan t-shirt. Police advised they are in the process of getting a helicopter to the scene to search for the suspect.
It is unknown at this time how much the suspect had stolen. Please use caution if you live in the area while the suspect is on the run. We will update you as we receive additional information.
Update: 3:00 P.M.
According to witness reports, at least two suspects fled the scene of the robbery on dirt bikes. Police have found the tracks and last known location of the dirt bikes with the assistance of roofers that saw the dirt bikes around George Connors Road in Hollis Maine. A search is currently being conducted by law enforcement officials in the area of Plains Rd.
Update 5:00 P.M.
Police have released that there was only 1 suspect that had robbed the Gorham Savings Bank on Sokokis Trail in Waterboro at gunpoint. There were several employees and only 1 customer in the bank at the time of the robbery. No one was injured. Police will not confirm or deny if the dirt bikes they are searching for in the George Connors Road and Plains Road area in Hollis is involved with the bank robbery. They should be releasing a photo of the suspect to release to the public according to a police official.
The Gorham Savings Bank has released that the Waterloo branch is closed for the remainder of the day. However, they do not have any comments at this time.
Update 6:00 P.M.
York County Sheriff William King advised the robbery occurred just before 2 P.M. today. One man with a gun entered the bank that had several employees and 1 customer. No one was injured. The man stole money and then left. The Sheriff’s Office has contacted the FBI to assist with the investigation and with identifying the suspect. They have not provided anything further to the public at this time.
A Gorham Savings Bank representative advised their employees were not physically harmed; however, they are shaken. The Waterboro branch will be closed until further notice while they work with law enforcement. They advised the Video Teller will be open with normal hours. They asked that you check their website for updates of when they will resume operation at that branch.
