Police in Eustis Florida conducted a traffic stop on Sunday September 29th, 2024, at E. Orange Ave. and Cardinal St. According to the Police Officer conducting the traffic stop, there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The odor was probable cause to search the vehicle further. A search found a loaded handgun along with 95 grams of methamphetamine. The large amount of methamphetamine indicates the driver was alledgely trafficking the drugs.
The driver, Matthew Campbell, has previous criminal records and is a convicted felon, according to the police statement. Matthew is facing criminal charges of armed trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of ammunition by convicted felon, possession of cannabis less than 20 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Eustis police say their Officers have been making a strong and ongoing efforts in keeping the community safe by being highly vigilant and dedicated to keeping drugs off the streets. This arrest is an example of how the Eustis Police Department is doing a great job at keeping the community safe.
