Update: Fayetteville Arkansas Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

On June 19, 2014, just two days after the United Bank was robbed, Fayetteville Arkansas Police advised they have a suspect in custody. A Springdale Arkansas man, 52-year-old Scott Walker was arrested for Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property, and Threatening to Cause a Catastrophe.

Multiple agencies were involved with the joint investigation including the Federal Bureau of Investigations office, the Bentonville Bomb Squad, Fayetteville Fire Department, and the Springdale Police Department.

Police said Scott Walker entered the United Bank on June 17, put a suspicious package on the teller’s counter, told them it was a bomb, and demanded money. Scott fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen on foot. Police later found security camera footage and observed Scott switching cloths and then left on a bicycle from a tree line that was located near the bank. He then was observed getting on a public transit bus later.  According to witnesses, Scott had on an earpiece and said he would detonate the bomb remotely if police were called.

Both the Bentonville Bomb Squad, and Fayetteville Fire Department responded and found that the device was a fake.

After the investigation, Scott Walker was identified as a suspect. A search warrant was issued and then conducted at Scott’s residence located at 3345 Brunswick Street in Springdale, Arkansas. Police located the clothing and items he used to make the fake bomb in his residence. Scott was not at his house at the time of the search.

Springdale Police later found Scott walking and carrying a black bag which had a large amount of cash. After an interview, Scott admitted to robbing the bank.

Scott Walker is currently being held in the Washington County Jail with a $100,000 bond. His scheduled arraignment is July 8 at the Washington County Circuit Court according to court records.
