Update: 2:30 P.M. 07/01/2024 House Explosion Fatality Victim Identified by the Florence County Coroner
Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken released the name of the victim who had died in the house explosion and fire we reported last week. Florence resident, 50-year-old Ellen Boyce Greene was killed in the fire. Keith said that neighbors heard the explosion and ran to the area to find the house trailer was engulfed in flames. Eight other people were in the trailer and were able to get out with injuries. Keith did not know the extend of injuries and only knew they were transported to the hospital.
Keith said that the Florence County Coroner’s Office and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the explosion. We will continue to keep you updated on this incident.
Update: 5:30 P.M. 06/27/2024: One Person Dead, Multiple People Injured in House Trailer Explosion
The Florence County Sheriff’s Office released further information on the house explosion reported hours earlier today.
The explosion occurred at a double-wide trailer around 2:33 P.M. The Windy Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded. One person was killed, and seven other people were injured from the explosion. The injured were transported by the Florence County EMS to the hospital. The Fire Chief John DeLung said he does not know the current conditions of the injured people.
The Fire Chief said that both the Florence City Fire Department and Howe Springs Fire Department assisted along with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is still on the scene investigating the incidence as of 5:00 P.M.
The name of the deceased or the injured is not being released at this time.
One Dead, One Injured in a House Explosion in South Carolina
Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye said that one person has been killed in a house explosion. The house is located at 1905 Gilbert Drive in Florence South Carolina. The Sheriff said there was one other person in the house at the time and they were able to get the person out. However they are injured. He would not advise on the extent of injuries. The fire is currently being battled. They do not know if anyone else is in the house at this time. They ask that people remain from the area while crews put out the fire. The explosion occurred after 2:00 P.M, today.
An Arson team will conduct an investigation as soon as the fire is out, and the scene is safe.
