Police Officer Shot in Oklahoma City
The Oklahoma City Police Department announced that they had a Police Officer shot during an altercation earlier today. One suspect has been killed after an hours long standoff.
At around 9:10 A.M. today, police were called to the area of the 2200 block of West Eubanks Street for a report of a man holding a gun to another person’s head, according to the Oklahoma City Police’s Public Information Officer, Captain Valerie Littlejohn.
Upon police arrival, the suspect barricaded himself in a nearby house. The suspect then started to fire shots at the Officers. Officers started to then return fire at the suspect. During the incident, one Officer was struck by the suspect’s gunfire. The Police Officer was transported to a nearby hospital and thankful was in good condition after a successful surgery.
During the gunfight, an Officer was able to successfully shoot and neutralize the suspect. Captain Littlejohn said the suspect was dead at the scene.
Police then found out that there were other people inside the house that the suspect was firing from at the Police. At around 11:45 A.M. Officers entered the house and removed five people. Two were women and three were children. According to Captain Littlejohn, none of them were injured.
The Oklahoma Police Department is currently investigating to try to find out what led up to the suspect’s actions. Police have not yet released the name of the suspect.
Captain Littlejohn said the Police Officers who had discharged their firearms were placed on administrative leave with pay. This is typically standard procedure acrost the nation for Police Officers involved in shooting incidents until the investigation is complete.
