High-Speed Pursuit Results with Dramatic Arrest: Suspect Flees on Foot, Captured After Search Near Fremont High School
On Wednesday December 4th, 2024, Woodville Police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in their village just after 3:00 AM. The suspects in the vehicle quickly led them on a pursuit going eastbound on Route 20 at a high rate of speed. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office joined in the pursuit.
The pursued vehicle traveled to Fremont Ohio. The suspect then stopped the vehicle e near Vanguard on Cedar Street and then led Officers on a foot chase. Another suspect, who was a passenger, was apprehended at the vehicle. The passenger had warrants from Cleveland Ohio for an assault. According to Police at the scene, they were searching for a Dana Jackson who was possibly armed with a handgun. Dana apparently was out on a supervised release from prison.
Ohio State Highway Patrol last had visual of the driver suspect running near the track and field behind the Fremont Ross High School. A permitter was set up and police began searching the area on foot. Drones were called in to assist in the search.
An unlocked open door was found by police at an outer building of the high school. It was searched with nothing found.
Then just before 4:57 AM, a Sandusky County Sheriff’s Deputy observed Jackson near the tennis courts. He fled again on foot and went north to the route 20 bypass. The Deputy observed Jackson with his hand on his waistband while he was running. Officers used caution as it was possible Jackson was carrying a gun. Jackson was running eastbound in the middle of route 20. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Sheriff’s Office was able to apprehend the suspect in the middle of route 20.
Jackson did not have the handgun on him at the time of arrest. Officers think that he could have dropped it either intentionally or unintentionally while he was running. Police contacted the school system to have their maintenance staff search around the buildings for the handgun. Police said when it is light out, they will search the area where the suspect was found near the tennis courts, and also the area of route 20 where he was apprehended.
The passenger was not identified and was transported to the Sandusky County Jail pending being transported to Cleveland on the warrant.
Dana Jackson was transported to the Sandusky County Jail pending the court date. Police says he is from Willoughby, Ohio.

The passenger was identified as Jonathan Johnson. He will be picked up by the agency that has the warrant for him.
Dana Jackson was charged with a Felony 4 Failure to Comply with the Order or Signal of a Police Officer, Fleeing and Eluding, and a Felony 5 Obstructing Official Business. He currently is at the Sandusky County Jail with no bail and will have a court date set.
