Update: 09/30/2024 Procession Route Announced for Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez
The Texas DPS released the procession route for Trooper Ramirez Vasquez.
On Tuesday October 1, 2024, at 9:30 A.M. a procession will begin at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 19th St in Lubbock, Texas and go to 6304 N. Cedar Ave.
The route will begin at Resthaven, then turning north on Frankford Avenue and entering Loop 289. They will exit onto North Interstate 27 and continue to exit 9 at Keuka Street, proceeding to Lubbock Aero.
As of Monday, the funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Original Report: Texas Trooper Killed While Investigating Crash
The Texas (DPS) Department of Public Safety with sadness announced the death of a Texas State Trooper who has died on September the 28th.
Texas DPS Director Steven McCraw said that 25-year-old Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez, was investigating a traffic crash along SH 302 near Odessa on September 17th, 2024. Around 9 A.M. a person driving a vehicle had then struck Trooper Ramirez Vasquez causing serious injuries.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was first transported to the nearest Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was then taken by helicopter to a Lubbock-area hospital where he was in critical condition.
Unfortunately, on September 28th, 2024, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez has died from the injuries.
Texas DPS Director Steven McCraw said “There are no words to ease the loss of one of our brothers in uniform. Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served this state honorably to his very last breath. His commitment to keeping the roads safe, protecting the people of Texas and the sacrifice he made will never be forgotten. Today, I ask that you keep his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers during the difficult days ahead.”
Prior to law enforcement, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez started his life of service by serving in the United States Army. Trooper Ramirez Vasquez then joined the Texas DPS in 2023 and was also serving in the National Guard. He was stationed in Odessa.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez is survived by his parents, and he has three siblings. The funeral arrangements are pending, and the Texas DPS said they would be announced soon.
Since the year 1823, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez is the 241st Texas DPS officer to have died in the line of duty.
