On Monday December 02, 2024, another shooting occurred in Fremont Ohio.
We interviewed several witnesses and was able to compile the details of the incident.
Just before 11:30 AM, Fremont Police were dispatched to the Jimmy John’s at 2380 Sean Dr Unit 108, for a report male suspects in the business who were making threats with a gun. Apparently one witness said an employee of Jimmy John’s boyfriend entered the business and was arguing with another person. The argument was apparently about an accident incident that occurred at Wendy’s in Fremont Ohio earlier.
Four male suspects, at least one who had a gun then fled the Jimmy John’s in a red four door sedan, possibly a Taurus driving toward the Walmart parking lot. Witnesses say a blue car was chasing the red car. A suspect then fired multiple shots from the red car. The tire of the blue car was struck, and the car was then stopped in the parking lot. The red vehicle continued to flee the scene.
Other witnesses say the red vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed near the Casa Nueva apartment complex on Dickinson Street north of Cedar Street. Witnesses say that the four male suspects fled on foot from the red vehicle toward the apartment complex. Police were seen catching and then detaining two suspects near the vehicle.
According to the Fremont Police report. No one was injured in the shooting. Police confirm the tire being struck and one of the vehicles being stopped at the Walmart parking lot. Police say they detained two suspects in the Casa Nueva parking lot, who then identified the other two suspects that they were not able to catch. Police were later able to arrest the other two suspects who had fled later that day. Police have taken two firearms in for evidence that they found at the Casa Nueva apartment complex. Both vehicles involved in the shooting were taken into evidence and placed at the Fremont water town complex off of Port Clinton Road for processing.
Vanguard, Fremont Ross High School, Fremont Middle School, and the YMCA were placed on lockdown during the incident. Police lifted the lockdown around 1:45 PM.
Nevarea A. Cooks-McKinney, 18 years old, is being charged with Felonious Assualt. Johnathan D, Matthews, 18 years old, is being charged with Complicity to Felonious Assault. Police expect additional charges will be filed. Both have a bond set at $100,000 by the Fremont Municipal Court.
This is one of many shooting incidents in Fremont Ohio this year. Many resident think that the crime and shootings are increasing because of the lack of focus from the Fremont Police on serious crime. Nancy Trauts of Fremont Ohio said “Police should be focusing on preventing serious crimes instead of harassing citizens for making noise while they do construction on their house. Crime will continue to increase until they stop harassing citizens for ridiculous reasons. That Detective Christian is the worst of them.” Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez has yet to comment on this incident and about the others.
