On Tuesday October 15, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Bridgeton New Jersey Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Buckshutem Road for a report of several suspects kicking in a front door.
When police arrived, they found a victim who had been shot. The victim was identified as Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari said Monica had died at the scene from her injuries. Officers conducted an investigation.
The investigation found a lead that led Officers to the Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton. That lead then sent New Jersey State Police troopers to the Cooper University Hospital in Camden New Jersey. One suspect was found at the Cooper University Hospital with a gunshot wound. The suspect was then detained for questioning. Police are not identifying the suspect.
Chief Gaimari said “I have known Sgt. Mosley for nearly her whole career.” The chief expressed condolences to Monica’s immediate and extended family as well as to the staff at the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor’s office is located within the city of Bridgeton. The Chief continued to say ““All of law enforcement feels the loss deeply, but our hearts go out to her family and friends including those that worked with her daily. It’s truly devastating!”
Police are cointinuing the investigation. Sgt. Monica Mosley started her career at the prosecutor’s office in 2006 as a paralegal specialist. She also served in other units including Trial Teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit and the Professional Standards Unit. In 2009 she became a county detective. In a statement Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said “She, (Sgt. Monica Mosley), served our community with honor, dignity and respect before her untimely passing, Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model for all those with whom she served and led in the law enforcement community throughout Cumberland County and beyond. She will be missed more than words can detail, but she will never be forgotten by her CCPO family.”
Funeral arrangements are pending for Sgt. Monica Mosely.
Police have not yet officially charged anyone with the homicide and said they are still investigating the incident and will bring justice to the suspects involved.
