A 43-Year-old El Paso, Texas man, only identified as Jorge N., has died at the Puerto Peñasco private condominiums, also known as Rocky Point, on the Gulf of California. It is a beach town frequented by U.S. tourists near the Arizona border. The Sonora State Attorney General’s Office advised a man and a 35-year-old woman only identified as Lizeth N. were in a jacuzzi hot tub when they were shocked by an electrical current on Tuesday June 11, 2024, around 10 P.M. in the evening. The jacuzzi was located outside near a swimming pool.
A person who knew the couple had witnessed them not moving and attempted to pull them out and was shocked, so the witness called for help. People nearby attempted CPR on both Jorge and Lizeth. Both were transported to a United States Hospital where the man had died, and the woman is currently in critical condition. The Sonora State Attorney General’s Office was advised by hospital staff that the woman had burns consistent with an electrical shock.
Other resort visitors advised they were using the same hot tub just hours before this incident.
There have been incidents in the past where people have been electrocuted in a jacuzzi and hot tubs because of malfunctioning wiring that sends the current to the water.
Sonora state authorities are investigating the incident to find the source of the electrical failure.
The Resort has no comment as of today.
